Sometimes, I have several templates for similar functions. For instance, I might have templates for work orders going to laborers that differ from those for work orders going to electricians’ Or templates for contracts that vary depending on whether they are for
homeowners or corporate clients.
Templates are great because I can create work orders, contracts, and whatever else I need based on my needs. I want to add logic so they automatically select the most appropriate template based on the project/estimate. While I suppose this could be a preset rule, I’d want to see the preset displayed along with the template to make it easier to understand why a particular template is/isn’t being used.
For example, Preset: When a request to create a work order is received, use TemplateWOElectrician if the work is for an electrician and TemplateWOLaborer if the work is for a laborer. Also, ask whether work orders should be created for all types of workers or only for certain types. Save the work Orders as separate documents. As I said, for debugging/maintenance/understandability I’d like to see the preset alongside the affected templates.
Of course, if anyone can think of a better way to do this, please post your idea.
