Quickbooks Integration Categories

Feature Request: QuickBooks Category Mapping for Materials vs. Services

Current Issue: All estimate line items export to QuickBooks as “Sales” items, regardless of whether they are materials or labor.

Requested Enhancement: Map Handoff’s existing internal categorization to appropriate QuickBooks item types:

Material items → “Materials” or “Inventory” category in QuickBooks

Labor items → “Services” category in QuickBooks

Business Benefits:

1.

Accurate Financial Reporting:

Separate P&L tracking for material costs vs. service revenue

Better understanding of profit margins by category

Accurate cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting for materials

2.

Tax Compliance:

Different tax treatment for materials vs. services in many jurisdictions

Easier preparation for sales tax returns

Proper classification for tax deductions

3.

Inventory Management:

Materials can be tracked as inventory items in QuickBooks

Better integration with QuickBooks inventory features

Automatic cost tracking for material purchases

4.

Job Costing Accuracy:

Cleaner job cost reports with proper categorization

Better analysis of material vs. labor efficiency

More accurate bidding based on historical data

5.

Accounting Workflow:

Eliminates manual reclassification work in QuickBooks

Reduces errors from manual data entry

Maintains data integrity between systems

This enhancement would leverage Handoff’s existing smart categorization to provide proper accounting classification automatically.
