There’s like 4 categories of COGS expenses on a job that are important to track - Labor, Materials, Sub work, and Equipment. Equipment usually means stuff you rent - scaffolding, an excavator, a plate compactor, etc. Stuff you don’t use enough to own but you need sometimes for a job. Over runs on those costs can have a big impact on profitability so we need to track those costs to budget. Subcontracted work is self-explanatory, and its neither labor nor materials bc subs usually bid to include materials.
